PPC is generally produced by inter grinding the clinkers of OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) along with gypsum and some pozzolanic material in proper proportion or these above all are grinded separately and then blended in proper proportion.
This type of cement has some suitable advantages in construction of mass concrete structures like dams, bridges etc.
Ø The most useful thing of PPC is that it gains strength as the time passes. Means it becomes stronger with time.
Ø It has less permeability.
Ø It has low heat of hydration, so it can be easily used in construction of mass concrete structures like dam, bridges.
Ø The PPC has better fineness property. Therefore it helps in having greater cohesion with aggregate and makes more dense concrete.
Ø It also has also better resistance to alkalis, sulphates, chlorides and chemicals.
Therefore PPC cement is always considered as suitable for construction of mass concrete structures.
