The following are four methods of surveying with plane table.
1. Radiation.
2. Intersection.
3. Traversing.
4. Resection.
1. Radiation :-
In this method, the point is located on plan by by drawing a ray from the plane table station to the point, and plotting to the scale along the ray the distance measured from the station to the point. The method is suitable for plotting of small areas which can be commanded from a single station. It is chiefly used for locating the details from station, which have been previously established by other method of surveying.
2. Intersection:-
In this, the point is fixed on plan by the intersection of the rays drawn from the to two instrument stations. The method is commonly employed for locating the distance and inaccessible points, locating the boundries, and the point which may be used subsequently as the instrument stations.
3. Travesing:-
This method is similar to that of compass or transit traversing. It is used for running survey lines between stations which have been previously fixed by other method of surveying to loacte topographical details. It is also suitable for the survey of roads, rivers etc.
4. Resection:-
This method is used for establishing instrument stations only. After fixing the stations the details are loacted either by Radiation or Intersection.
