Dear friends today we are going to learn how to
calculate the amount of ingredients present in the concrete… The concrete
contains three ingredients cement, sand and aggregate. To calculate quantity of
every ingredient of concrete we must know their ratio (Proportion).
Volume of concrete = 1 m^3
Proportion of concrete = 1:2:4
To calculate quantity of ingredients first we have
to calculate volume of dry concrete. Generally the volume of dry concrete is 52
% – 54 % greater than the wet volume of concrete.
So,
Dry volume of concrete = 1 + [(1×52)/100]
Dry volume of concrete = 1.52 m^3.
Now calculate quantity of cement required
Vol. of cement
= (dry vol. of concrete / addition
of proportion) × part of cement
Vol. of Cement = [1.52 / (1+2+4)] × 1=0.217 m^3
The cement bag of 50 kg weight contains the 0.035
m^3 of cement.
No. of bags =(Vol. of cement in 1 m^3)/0.035 = 0.217/0.035
= 6.2 bags.
Now calculate quantity of sand,
Vol. of sand = (dry vol. of concrete / addition of
proportion) × part of sand
Vol. of sand= [1.52 / (1+2+4)] × 2=0.434 m^3
Now calculate quantity of aggregate,
Vol. of agg. = (dry vol. of concrete / addition of
proportion) × part of agg.
Vol. of aggregate = [1.52 / (1+2+4)] × 4=0.868 m^3
From this it is clear that 1 m^3 of concrete with
1:2:4 proportion requires cement of 0.217 m^3, sand of 0.434 m^3 and 0.868 m^3 of
aggregate. From the base of this example you can calculate amount of
ingredients for any proportion of concrete or any quantity of concrete. Thank
